About the Artist
Chaffer Romey
I go out to draw or paint (charcoal, pastels, watercolours, or sketch pad and pencil) close to where I live in West Durham, often in Ragpath Wood owned by the Woodland Trust, or on Hedleyhope Fell, a mid-altitude heathland managed by the Durham Wildlife Trust. I love to be enveloped in the shelter of trees, or I may be attracted to the movement and rhythm of a particular branch or the tangle of undergrowth. The studies I make are used to create compositions in the studio. I have always had a concern for the natural environment, and in recent years my work has also been concerned with climate change.
9 Planetary Boundaries
Each small painting represents my own thoughts and exploration of the impact we are having on the earth's systems, whether through water and air pollution, biodiversity loss, ocean acidification, ozone depletion, land degradation and climate change, etc.
