About the Artist

Lucie Mcdougall

My artistic practice is deeply rooted in my personal connection to the Scottish landscape, particularly Mull and Dollar. Inspired by the sensory experiences of these regions, I create abstract landscape drawings that capture not only visual elements but also the essence of weather and sounds. Identity, memory, and the concept of home are central themes in my work, reflecting my profound connection to Scotland and the tranquility it evokes. Crafting my final book, 'Dhairach,' sparked a fascination with meticulous craftsmanship, while the incorporation of Gaelic language reflects my desire to connect with my ancestral culture. Through my art, I aim to convey an authentic and poetic reflection of Scotland's remote regions and their cultural heritage.

Traces of Circumstance was created for a collaborative landscape exhibition, delving into the themes of environment, nature's imprints, and unspoken liminal spaces. Through abstract mark-making and layered techniques, the piece explores diverse forms, inspired by my upbringing in rural Scotland, fostering a deep connection to the natural world.
