About the Artist

Karen Lewis

My recent paintings are of acrylic, gouache and pencil. My current practice focuses on the global environment, as seen through a local lens. The subject matter is concerned with the disappearance of our local industrial landmarks. As we move from carbon based fuel to cleaner energy production our local environment is changing and the buildings that have been significant markers in our lives for generations removed. My work questions the nature of their disappearance and illustrates how they might live on in our collective memory.
