About the Artist

Robert Newton

Born in the UK Robert has lived and worked in the counties of Northumberland and most recently County Durham in the north of England. Painting regularly since childhood, he studied fine art at Sunderland University graduating in 2001. His paintings have been exhibited mostly in the UK and are held in collections in Europe, the United States and as far away as New Zealand.

Working in traditional media on canvases, paper and reclaimed wood, Robert's disciplines include collage, drawing, painting and printmaking. Utilising landscapes as compositional elements, his work is a reflection of thoughts, feelings and personal experiences represented in colour and form. 'My paintings are concerned with analysing what is thought and felt in nature and our world; being presented both aesthetically and metaphorically, I hope the viewer will seek to question it’s making, yet find their own answers, visual language and understand themselves.'
